A Life Vitae holds your most precious memories, beliefs, and lived experience. Here is exactly where it lives, how it's protected, and how you keep a copy that's always yours.
Where your story lives
Your Life Vitae is stored on trusted, professionally managed cloud infrastructure — the same kind of platform used by thousands of modern companies. Your text is kept in a managed PostgreSQL database (Neon), the site runs on Vercel, and your photos and audio are held in private file storage that the public internet cannot reach directly.
Your media is never served from a public link. Every photo and recording can only be opened through your account, after we've checked that you're allowed to see it.
How it's protected
Encrypted on the way in, encrypted at rest. Everything you send to us travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS/TLS), and the databases and file storage that hold your story are encrypted on disk by our infrastructure providers.
Your password is never stored. We only keep a one-way scrambled version (a bcrypt hash). Even we cannot read your password — and if you forget it, we reset it rather than recover it.
We never touch your card. All payments are handled by Stripe, a global payments leader. Your card number, security code, and billing details go straight to Stripe and are never stored on our servers.
You decide what's private
Nothing you write is public by default. Your Life Vitae starts in Your Vault, visible only to you. You choose, section by section, what stays private, what you share with family, and what (if anything) you contribute to the Library of Wisdom. You can change your mind and unpublish at any time.
“If the website goes down, do I lose everything?”
No — and this is the part we care about most. At any time, with one click, you can download your entire Life Vitae as a single keepsake file: all your writing, plus your photos and audio embedded right inside it. It opens in any web browser, on any computer, with no account and no internet connection required.
That means you are never locked in. Even in the unlikely event that this site disappeared tomorrow, the copy on your own computer would keep working — forever. And if you order a printed book, you hold the most permanent backup of all: one that lives on a shelf, not a server.
On our side, your story sits on infrastructure that keeps redundant, automatically backed-up copies, so a single hardware failure can't take your memories with it. But the copy you hold is the promise we want you to remember.
